Porsche Taycan Turbo GT with Manthey Kit Sets New Nürburgring EV Record
Porsche has reclaimed the Nürburgring lap record for production electric vehicles with its Taycan Turbo GT, now equipped with the Manthey Kit. Development driver Lars Kern completed a lap in just 6:55.553, surpassing the previous record held by Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra, which posted a time of 7:04.957. This marks a significant 12-second improvement over the standard Taycan Turbo GT and more than nine seconds ahead of the SU7 Ultra.
Manthey Kit: A Motorsport-Inspired Upgrade
The Manthey Kit is the result of a collaboration between Porsche’s Weissach development center and Manthey’s engineers in Meuspath, drawing inspiration from motorsport. The package includes:
- A reworked aero kit with carbon fiber components
- A more potent powertrain
- Lighter wheels and track-focused tires
- A retuned suspension
Aggressive Aerodynamics for Maximum Downforce
The Taycan Turbo GT’s visual transformation is striking, featuring:
- An adjustable splitter combined with canards and GT3-style fender gills at the front
- Wide fender extensions and deeper side skirts along the profile
- Lighter 21-inch forged aluminum wheels with carbon aero discs on the rear axle
- A boxy diffuser and a larger, manually adjustable rear wing at the rear
According to Porsche, the Manthey components triple the downforce of the standard model. At 200 km/h (124 mph), the car generates 310 kg (683 lbs) of downforce, up from 95 kg (209 lbs). At its top speed of 309 km/h (192 mph), downforce increases to a massive 740 kg (1,631 lbs)—a 5 km/h improvement over the standard model.
Power Boost: From 804 hp to 978 hp
The Manthey Kit also enhances the Taycan Turbo GT’s powertrain:
- Standard mode: 804 hp (600 kW / 815 PS), a 27 hp increase
- Attack mode: 978 hp (730 kW / 993 PS), a 40 hp increase
- Launch control: 1,019 hp (760 kW / 1,033 PS) with an additional 22 lb-ft (30 Nm) of torque, reaching 936 lb-ft (1,269 Nm)
Despite these improvements, Porsche notes that the Taycan’s power figures still fall short of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra’s output.
Xiaomi SU7 Ultra Previously Held the Nürburgring EV Record
Earlier this year, Xiaomi’s SU7 Ultra set a Nürburgring lap record of 7:04.957 for production electric vehicles, briefly overtaking Porsche’s Taycan Turbo GT. The SU7 Ultra’s performance was a milestone for Chinese EV manufacturers, showcasing the rapid advancements in electric vehicle technology. However, Porsche’s Manthey Kit has now reclaimed the title, underscoring the German automaker’s commitment to pushing the limits of electric performance.
Why the Nürburgring Record Matters
The Nürburgring Nordschleife is often regarded as the ultimate proving ground for performance vehicles. A lap record on this challenging 20.8-kilometer (12.9-mile) track is a testament to a car’s handling, power, and engineering. For electric vehicles, breaking such records demonstrates the rapid evolution of EV technology, particularly in areas like battery efficiency, regenerative braking, and thermal management. Porsche’s achievement with the Taycan Turbo GT and Manthey Kit highlights the brand’s leadership in the electric performance segment.
"The Manthey Kit transforms the Taycan Turbo GT into a near-perfect Nürburgring machine, combining aerodynamics, power, and precision to set a new benchmark for production electric vehicles."
