The search for versatile, high-performance vehicles is critical for law enforcement agencies nationwide. Ram addresses this need with the 2027 Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle, a pursuit-capable heavy-duty truck engineered to meet the rigorous demands of police work.
This specialized vehicle builds on the foundation of the Ram 2500 Special Service Vehicle but incorporates key engineering enhancements tailored for law enforcement. These include optimized vehicle dynamics, repeatable high-performance durability, and ergonomic interior and exterior designs to accommodate officers equipped with gear.
Rigorous Testing and Certification
The Michigan State Police (MSP) evaluated the Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle through a series of demanding tests to ensure its pursuit capability and reliability. The evaluation included:
- Zero-to-60 mph, zero-to-80 mph, and zero-to-100 mph acceleration sprints
- Stop-to-top-speed acceleration
- Average deceleration rate for 20 full anti-lock brake stops from 60 mph to zero
- Completion of all 32 laps of the Grattan Raceway dynamics test, which features:
- A 2-mile road course
- A 3,200-foot straightaway
- Significant elevation changes
- A 160-degree hairpin turn, often compared to the Nürburgring
“When your job means running toward danger, not away from it, you don't have time to second‑guess your equipment. It has to be up to the task,” said Tim Kuniskis, Head of American Brands, SRT Performance, NA Marketing and Retail Strategy. “That's why we're giving government agencies the first and only 3/4-ton pursuit-capable truck with the Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle. The men and women who answer the call deserve a vehicle that can go anywhere, handle anything and deliver when every second matters. That’s exactly what this truck is built to do.”
Performance and Powertrain
The Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle is powered by a 6.4-liter Hemi V-8, generating 405 horsepower and 429 lb.-ft. of torque. It features a TorqueFlite HD 8-speed automatic transmission and a selectable 2-speed transfer case to distribute power efficiently to the axles. An anti-spin differential paired with an uprated 4.10 axle ratio enhances acceleration and power delivery, compared to the standard Ram 2500’s 3.73 axle ratio.
In zero-to-100 mph acceleration testing, the Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle recorded times within two seconds of several lighter and smaller half-ton truck and SUV competitors. Officials noted the following performance metrics:
- 8.41 seconds to reach 60 mph
- 13.22 seconds to reach 80 mph
- 20.5 seconds to reach 100 mph
- Reached a tire-limited top speed of 103 mph in just 0.45 miles
Availability and Portfolio
The Ram 2500 Emergency Response Vehicle is scheduled to be available to fleets in the second half of 2026. While pricing has not been announced, this new offering expands Ram’s portfolio of law enforcement vehicles, which includes the Dodge Durango Pursuit, Jeep Grand Wagoneer Command Operations Vehicle, and other Ram Special Service vehicles.
