Ford is bucking the industry trend of downsizing engines in its 2027 Super Duty pickup truck lineup. Instead of smaller, more efficient powertrains, the automaker is making the 7.3-liter Godzilla V8 the standard engine for all F-250, F-350, and F-450 Super Duty models.

The 7.3L Godzilla V8 delivers 430 horsepower and 485 lb-ft (658 Nm) of torque, a significant upgrade over the outgoing 6.8-liter gas V8, which produced 405 hp. The engine has been available as an option in previous models but is now the base powerplant for the Super Duty range.

Ford is also phasing out the standard 6.7-liter Power Stroke diesel V8 in favor of its High Output version. This upgraded diesel engine produces 500 hp and 1,200 lb-ft (1,626 Nm) of torque, making it ideal for heavy towing and hauling duties.

Why the Shift Back to Big Engines?

For the past decade, pickup buyers have been encouraged to embrace smaller, more fuel-efficient engines. However, Ford’s decision to standardize the 7.3L Godzilla V8 suggests a shift in priorities, particularly with looser emissions regulations under the Trump administration. The move aligns with growing demand for high-performance, high-torque engines in heavy-duty trucks.

What Else Is New for the 2027 Super Duty?

Beyond the engine changes, the 2027 Super Duty lineup will feature several updates:

  • New Wheels: 20-inch Dark Carbonized Gray wheels for XLT and Lariat trims, and 20-inch PVD aluminum wheels for the Lariat.
  • Rear Seat Delete: The SuperCab configuration will offer a rear seat delete option.
  • Digital Rearview Mirror: Available across all trims as a standard feature.
  • Extended Bed Option: An 8-foot bed will be offered on XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum models.
  • Off-Road Package: The XL Off-Road trim will include a 35-inch tire package.
  • High-Capacity Axle Upgrade: Available for models equipped with the 500-hp 6.7L diesel V8.

Pricing Implications

Ford has not yet announced pricing changes for the 2027 Super Duty lineup. However, given the introduction of more powerful engines and additional features, a marginal price increase is expected.
