Seth Meyers got an unexpected moonwalk lesson from Colman Domingo on Wednesday night during his appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers—but the NBC host still couldn’t master the iconic dance move.

Domingo visited the show to promote his new film Michael, a biopic about Michael Jackson in which Domingo portrays the Jackson family patriarch, Joe Jackson. Though Michael Jackson was famous for the moonwalk, Meyers wondered if Domingo could have performed it in the film.

Confident in his abilities, Domingo offered Meyers an on-the-spot lesson.

“I can walk backwards,” Meyers quipped.

Domingo quickly stood up to demonstrate the technique, drawing cheers from the audience as he dramatically flourished his coat. Then it was Meyers’ turn to try.

“But I feel like — but if you watch, like, this is just as fast,” Meyers said, as he simply walked backward without the signature glide of the moonwalk.

“That’s like the laziest way possible,” Domingo laughed in response.

Meyers made a second attempt, putting in slightly more effort, and Domingo encouraged him to “put some stank on it” as he demonstrated the move again. Meyers acknowledged that Michael Jackson always added that flair but quickly retreated to his desk.

“I think you are underestimating how little people want to see me put stank on anything,” Meyers joked, sending Domingo into laughter.
