Sony has officially unveiled the A7R VI, the latest addition to its flagship high-resolution mirrorless camera lineup. Visually, the A7R VI closely resembles its predecessor, the A7R V, and other models in Sony’s full-frame series.
The standout feature of the A7R VI is its fully stacked full-frame sensor, boasting 66.8 megapixels of resolution and offering up to 16 stops of dynamic range. While the resolution increase from the A7R V is modest—approximately six megapixels—the stacked sensor architecture delivers significant performance benefits. These include a much faster readout speed, enabling higher burst rates, improved silent shooting with the electronic shutter, and enhanced video capabilities.
The A7R VI will carry a launch price of $4,499.99 when it becomes available in June 2024. This represents a $600 increase compared to the A7R V’s launch price in 2022.
In addition to the upgraded sensor, the A7R VI introduces a range of new features designed to enhance usability and performance. While the full list of specifications and capabilities has not been detailed in the announcement, Sony has emphasized improvements across multiple areas, including autofocus, connectivity, and operational efficiency.
