Dawn Steinberg will depart her role as executive vice president of worldwide talent and casting at Sony Pictures Television after 23 years with the company.

Steinberg will remain with the studio through the summer to assist in the transition as Sony seeks her replacement. The company has stated it does not intend to increase reliance on external casting consultants, a shift some competitors have adopted in the streaming era.

Steinberg’s Legacy in Casting and Talent

In her leadership role, Steinberg oversaw the talent and casting for Sony’s global television slate. Her collaborations with casting directors led to pivotal casting decisions, including:

  • Bryan Cranston in Breaking Bad
  • Rose Byrne in Damages
  • Margot Robbie in Pan Am

Transition Plans and Studio Direction

The studio has not announced a successor but confirmed Steinberg’s departure will not result in a greater dependence on outside casting resources. This decision reflects Sony’s commitment to maintaining internal talent and casting strategies despite industry shifts toward external partnerships.
