The Trump administration has escalated its criticism of comedian Jimmy Kimmel following jokes he made at a parody White House Correspondents’ Dinner last week. Both President Donald Trump and White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt joined First Lady Melania Trump in condemning Kimmel’s remarks, which they claim incited violence.

Trump’s Response on Truth Social

On Monday, President Trump took to Truth Social to attack Kimmel, writing:

“Wow, Jimmy Kimmel, who is in no way funny as attested to by his terrible Television Ratings … showed a fake video of the First Lady, Melania, and our son, Barron, like they were actually sitting in his studio, listening to him speak, which they weren’t, and never would be. He then stated, ‘Our First Lady, Melania, is here. Look at Melania, so beautiful. Mrs. Trump, you have a glow like an expectant widow.’

A day later a lunatic tried entering the ballroom of the White House Correspondents Dinner, loaded up with a shotgun, handgun, and many knives. He was there for a very obvious and sinister reason.

I appreciate that so many people are incensed by Kimmel’s despicable call to violence, and normally would not be responsive to anything that he said but, this is something far beyond the pale. Jimmy Kimmel should be immediately fired by Disney and ABC.”

Leavitt Joins the Criticism

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt also weighed in on Monday, questioning the intent behind Kimmel’s joke:

“Who in their right mind says a wife would be glowing over the potential murder of her beloved husband? And having experienced what I did with the first lady on Saturday night, I can tell you that she was anything but that. This kind of rhetoric about the president, the first lady, and his supporters is completely deranged, and it’s unbelievable that the American people are consuming it night after night after night.”

No Evidence Links Kimmel’s Jokes to Violence

Cole Allen, the man accused of attempting to enter the White House Correspondents’ Dinner with weapons, allegedly cited different motivations in his manifesto. Reports indicate his grievances included Trump’s lack of respect for Christianity, his decision to cut off funding for Ukraine, and claims that the country was led by “a pedophile, rapist, and traitor.” There is no evidence linking his actions to Kimmel’s jokes.

The Trump administration’s focus on Kimmel’s remarks contrasts with the president’s own history of inflammatory rhetoric. Critics argue that the administration’s response is disproportionate and ignores more serious comments made by Trump and his allies.
