President Donald Trump’s latest Truth Social post has sparked international backlash after he shared a far-right commentator’s remarks calling India a “hellhole” and criticizing Indian immigrants.

On Wednesday evening, Trump posted a four-page transcript and video of remarks by far-right commentator Michael Savage, who railed against birthright citizenship. Savage claimed that Indian immigrants had poor English skills and that Indians in the technology industry were not hiring white Americans. Among his remarks, Savage stated, “A baby here becomes an instant citizen, and then they bring the entire family in from China or India or some other hellhole on the planet.”

Indian Government Responds to Trump’s Post

In a statement issued on Thursday, a spokesperson for India’s foreign ministry, Randhir Jaiswal, condemned Trump’s post as “obviously uninformed, inappropriate and in poor taste.”

“They certainly do not reflect the reality of the India-US relationship, which has long been based on mutual respect and shared interests,”

Jaiswal added.

Indian-American Community Condemns Trump’s Remarks

Indian-Americans in the U.S. also expressed outrage over Trump’s post. The right-leaning Hindu American Foundation posted on X, “We are deeply disturbed by @POTUS sharing this hateful, racist screed targeting Indian and Chinese Americans.”

“Endorsing such rants as the president of the United States will further stoke hatred and endanger our communities, at a time when xenophobia and racism are already at an all time high.”

Trump’s History of Anti-Immigrant Rhetoric

Trump’s post comes despite the support he receives from many Indian Americans, including Ohio gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy and FBI Director Kash Patel. However, Trump has a long history of making derogatory remarks about immigrants from countries he has labeled as “shithole countries,” a comment he first made in 2018 and repeated in 2025. His recent post aligns with his ongoing efforts to overturn birthright citizenship and restrict legal immigration pathways.
