Brodie Mitchell, a student at Royal Holloway, University of London, is facing possible hate crime charges after describing a pro-Palestinian activist’s keffiyeh as a “tea towel.”
The incident occurred during a campus event and followed a heated exchange where both students exchanged insults. Mitchell, who identifies as a “non-Jewish Zionist,” claimed the other student first called him a “wannabe Jew” and referenced his decision not to wear a kippah.
In response to the incident, the university suspended Mitchell for nine weeks, and local police referred the case to prosecutors for further review.
