The White House’s Rapid Response team accused Mark Hamill on Thursday of sharing an AI-generated image of President Trump lying dead in an open grave, labeling the Star Wars actor a "sick individual."

"@MarkHamill is one sick individual. These Radical Left lunatics just can’t help themselves. This kind of rhetoric is exactly what has inspired three assassination attempts in two years against our President."

The accusation follows a post by Hamill on Bluesky, where he shared an AI-generated image of Trump with his eyes closed in a grave. The headstone next to the image bore Trump’s name and the dates "1946-2024," along with the words "If Only." Hamill also used the phrase to introduce his post.

"If Only — He should live long enough to witness his inevitable devastating loss in the midterms, be held accountable for his unprecedented corruption, impeached, convicted, humiliated for his countless crimes," Hamill wrote. "Long enough to realize he’ll be disgraced in the history books, forevermore. #don_TheCON"

The Rapid Response team’s post on X (formerly Twitter) included a screenshot of Hamill’s Bluesky post alongside their statement. The tweet was published on May 7, 2026.

Hamill’s Longstanding Criticism of Trump

Hamill has been a vocal critic of Trump for years. In a September 2025 interview on WTF With Marc Maron, he expressed frustration over Trump’s reelection, stating he felt like he was in the "minority in my own country."

"It’s one thing for him to have sneaked by the first time — when he got reelected, that’s on us," Hamill said. "That’s where I’m really ashamed of — because I always thought there are more decent Americans, honest Americans than there are others. And it proved I was wrong. I’m in the minority in my own country."

Recent Political Context

Hamill’s remarks come just one week after Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche, appointed by Trump, announced new criminal charges against former FBI Director James Comey. The charges stem from a 2024 Instagram post where Comey shared a photo of seashells spelling "8647," which Trump’s allies claimed was a coded call for his assassination.

Additionally, Hamill’s post follows the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner in April 2026, which was interrupted by a shooter who attempted to assassinate Trump.

The White House’s statement and Hamill’s post highlight the escalating rhetoric and tensions surrounding U.S. politics ahead of the midterm elections.
