NFLドラフト2巡目ではQBが指名されなかったが、3巡目最初の指名でアリゾナ・カージナルスが新たなQBを獲得した。カーソン・ベックを全体65位で指名した。
なお、ドラフト1巡目ではフェルナンド・メンドーサとタイ・シンプソンの2人のQBが指名されている。
ベックは昨年、マイアミ大学に転校し、ハリケーンズを全米選手権に導いた。それ以前はジョージア大学で2年間先発し、通算11,725ヤード、88TD、32INT、パス成功率約70%の成績を残した。
アリゾナにはジェイコビー・ブリスケットとガードナー・ミンスヘというベテランQBが在籍しているが、ブリスケットは契約調整のためチームのオフシーズンプログラムを欠席していた。
