BMW’s 2027 i7: A Bold Step into the Future of Luxury EVs

The executive sedan market is shrinking, especially for electric vehicles. With the Tesla Model S and Mercedes’ EQ lineup phasing out, options are limited. The upcoming Mercedes S-Class, Lucid Air, Cadillac Celestiq, and Porsche Taycan remain, but BMW is doubling down with the all-new 2027 7 Series—a lineup spanning gas, hybrid, and fully electric powertrains, packed with modern technology.

Inside the 2027 BMW i7: Trims, Pricing, and Performance

The 2027 BMW i7, the electric variant of the new 7 Series, will be available in three trims:

  • i750 xDrive – Starts at $105,750, available later this year
  • i760 xDrive – Starts at $126,250, available later this year
  • i7 M70 xDrive – The most powerful model, launching in 2027 with pricing TBD

All models feature a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. The base i750 delivers 455 hp, while the i760 offers 544 hp. The top-tier i7 M70 boasts a staggering 680 hp, making it the fastest and most powerful in the lineup.

Battery Upgrades: Faster Charging and Extended Range

The 2027 i7 introduces BMW’s sixth-generation battery cells, increasing capacity from 105.7 kWh to 112.4 kWh. This upgrade enables:

  • 250 kW fast charging (up from 195 kW)
  • NACS (North American Charging Standard) port compatibility
  • 400-volt architecture for rapid charging
  • 10% to 80% charge in ~28 minutes

BMW claims the i760 will achieve over 350 miles of range per EPA testing procedures, a significant improvement over its predecessor.

Design and Tech: Neue Klasse Meets Modern Luxury

While the reveal at Grand Central Station in NYC showcased the gas-powered 740 due to building regulations, BMW confirmed that the i7’s cosmetic differences are minimal compared to its internal combustion counterpart. Subtle EV-specific touches include a revised grille and recessed door handles, giving the 7 Series a more futuristic look.

The 2027 7 Series is also BMW’s first U.S. model to feature the company’s Neue Klasse design language, introducing a suite of advanced in-cabin technologies. The extended taillights further enhance the sedan’s distinctive rear profile.

"The new 7-series embraces modern gadgetry while maintaining BMW’s luxury legacy."

What’s Next for the 2027 BMW i7?

The i750 and i760 will launch later in 2024, with the high-performance i7 M70 following in 2027. As the executive EV market evolves, BMW’s latest i7 positions itself as a leader in luxury, performance, and cutting-edge electric mobility.
