Anne Hathaway proved her versatility once again—this time by flawlessly singing a Blink-182 lyric backwards on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

The actress appeared on the NBC late-night program on Wednesday, May 15, 2024, as part of her press tour for The Devil Wears Prada 2. During her segment, she and host Jimmy Fallon played the “Reverse It Challenge”, a game where one person sings a lyric normally, the recording is reversed via an app, and the other must mimic the backward version. If done correctly, playing the new recording backward should restore the original lyric.

Most attempts resulted in unintelligible gibberish, but the duo’s rendition of Blink-182’s “All the Small Things” took a surprising turn.

The Challenge: Singing Blink-182 Backwards

Fallon began by singing the lyric “Work sucks, I know” normally. When played in reverse, Hathaway burst into laughter, struggling to compose herself before attempting the same sounds. Despite her initial giggles, she delivered a near-perfect rendition of the reversed lyric.

When the recording was played backward again, Hathaway’s attempt was nearly flawless—with only a slight muddle on the word “Work”.

The audience erupted in applause, and Fallon joined Hathaway for an impromptu air guitar performance as the Roots played the song live.
