Audi is set to launch a fifth-generation A6 Allroad Quattro, with official confirmation arriving not from the automaker’s headquarters in Ingolstadt, but from type-approval documents filed in Australia. The high-riding wagon, a staple in Audi’s lineup since 1999, is poised to make a comeback, defying the SUV-dominated market trends.
The fifth-generation A6 Avant debuted in March 2025, followed by the sedan variant a month later. Despite Audi’s silence on the Allroad variant, Australian regulatory filings have already identified it, confirming its existence and specifications.
Spy photographers captured camouflaged prototypes in late 2024, which served as the foundation for speculative renderings. The new A6 Allroad is expected to retain the signature Allroad design elements, including:
- Plastic body cladding and aluminum-finish skid plates (front and rear)
- Elevated roof rails compared to the standard A6 Avant
- Aggressive tires and distinct wheel designs
- Increased ride height for off-road capability
The Allroad will also feature adaptive air suspension, allowing drivers to adjust ground clearance as needed—a hallmark of previous Allroad models.
Interior and Features
The A6 Allroad’s interior will mirror the rest of the A6 lineup, offering a host of premium amenities, including:
- A triple-screen digital cockpit
- Head-up display
- 20-speaker Bang Olufsen sound system
- Four-zone climate control
- Door-closing assist function
Powertrain Options: Diesel and Plug-in Hybrid
The Australian type-approval documents provide more than just confirmation of the car’s existence. As uncovered by Drive, the DVKC and DYVA codenames correspond to a diesel and a plug-in hybrid variant, respectively.
The diesel powertrain is expected to feature the mild-hybrid 3.0-liter V6 TDI engine, already offered in the EU-spec A6 Avant. This engine produces 295 hp (220 kW / 300 PS) and 580 Nm (428 lb-ft) of torque. Power will be sent to all four wheels via a seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic and the quattro AWD system.
The plug-in hybrid setup is particularly noteworthy. It pairs a 2.0-liter TSI engine with a single electric motor and a 20.7 kWh battery, delivering a combined 362 hp (270 kW / 367 PS). The PHEV variant offers an electric-only range of 100 km (62 miles).
Release Timeline and Market Availability
Audi has not yet announced an official release date, but the new A6 Allroad could debut in Europe later in 2025. However, North American availability remains uncertain, as the new A6 is currently offered exclusively as a sedan in the US market. Additionally, the Australian type-approval does not guarantee the car’s sale in Australia, as confirmed by an Audi Australia spokesperson.
