Indimo Automotive Brings the BAW 212 Pickup to Europe
Indimo Automotive is set to introduce the BAW 212 pickup to the European market. The model blends iconic styling elements from the Land Rover Defender and Toyota FJ40, delivering a truck designed for high off-road capability, robust technology, and everyday usability.
Styling Inspired by Defender and FJ40
The BAW 212 closely mirrors the body side and cab of the previous-generation Land Rover Defender pickup, though it incorporates Jeep-style fender flares and a front end reminiscent of the classic Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. While the design draws inspiration from multiple off-road legends, the truck features modern touches such as circular LED headlights and rain-sensing wipers.
The exterior also includes side steps and 18-inch alloy wheels, complemented by circular taillights. The truck’s bed measures 5.1 feet (1,555 mm) in length.
Dimensions and Size Comparison
The BAW 212 measures 215.3 inches (5,469 mm) in length, 76.8 inches (1,950 mm) in width, and 77.6 inches (1,970 mm) in height, with a wheelbase spanning 137.3 inches (3,488 mm). These dimensions make it significantly larger than the old Defender 110 and 130 Double Cab pickups, though it is only 2.7 inches (69 mm) shorter than the Jeep Gladiator.
A Well-Equipped Cabin for Comfort and Convenience
The BAW 212’s cabin stands out with a mix of modern and practical features. Drivers are greeted by a three-spoke steering wheel, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch infotainment system with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The Euro-spec model includes heated and ventilated front seats with 10-way power adjustment on the driver’s side. While the seats are upholstered in artificial leather, the steering wheel is wrapped in genuine leather. Additional features include a wireless smartphone charger, an eight-speaker audio system, and a dual-zone automatic climate control system. The cabin also boasts metallic accents and an abundance of physical switchgear for intuitive control.
Powertrain and Off-Road Capability
The BAW 212 is powered by a 2.3-liter turbodiesel engine producing 188 hp (140 kW / 190 PS) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm) of torque. It is paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system, enabling a top speed of 99 mph (160 km/h).
Despite its modest power output, the truck is built for serious off-road performance. It features ladder-frame construction and rigid axles, along with locking front, center, and rear differentials. The BAW 212 also offers 9.8 inches (250 mm) of ground clearance, exceeding that of the Ford Ranger Wildtrak.
Drivers can choose from a range of drive modes, including Standard, Eco, Sport, Snow, Sand, Rock, Mud, Wading, Mountain, and Bumpy. Additional features include cruise control, park distance control, and a 360° camera system for enhanced safety and convenience.
Pricing and Availability
German pricing for the BAW 212 has not yet been announced. However, the truck is positioned competitively against established models like the Ford Ranger and Toyota Hilux, offering a compelling blend of style, capability, and value.
