Chevrolet has unveiled the redesigned Sonic, a global model tailored for emerging markets. The new vehicle departs from its previous sedan and hatchback configurations, now presented as a crossover that the automaker describes as a coupe.

The Sonic features an expressive front fascia with a split grille and lighting units. Its design includes slender LED daytime running lights that double as turn signals, along with mid-mounted projector beam headlights estimated to be approximately 20% brighter than traditional lights.

The crossover introduces Chevrolet’s updated bowtie logo, now with a black finish and a more horizontal design. An illuminated version of the logo is available among the vehicle’s over 70 accessory options.

At the rear, the Sonic showcases plastic body cladding and black accents on the RS variant, complemented by adventurous bodywork and a roof rack capable of supporting up to 110 lbs (50 kg). The model rides on 17-inch wheels, each with a unique design per trim. The rear design draws inspiration from the Equinox EV, featuring a pronounced spoiler, an angular rear window, a full-width light bar, black badging, and a bulky rear bumper.

Dimensions and Positioning

The crossover is built on the Global Emerging Markets platform and measures 166.5 inches (4,230 mm) long, 69.7 inches (1,770 mm) wide, and 60.2 inches (1,530 mm) tall. It is 7 inches (178 mm) shorter than the Trailblazer sold in America but is designed to slot between the upcoming Onix Activ and the existing Tracker.

Interior and Technology

Chevrolet provided a limited look at the interior, highlighting a “virtual cockpit system” that combines a digital instrument panel with advanced multimedia connectivity. Additional interior features include soft-touch accents, piano black inserts, premium seat covers, and exclusive finishes akin to the brand’s larger utility vehicles.

Powertrain and Availability

Powertrain details remain scarce, though Chevrolet indicated the crossover will offer turbocharged engines exclusively in Brazil. The automaker also noted the Sonic was “developed entirely in a virtual environment” and “born from a process driven by artificial intelligence.” Sales are scheduled to begin in May.
