The Minnesota Vikings are currently searching for a new General Manager (GM) after firing their previous executive following the 2025 season. Head coach Kevin O'Connell addressed the ongoing process on Friday, emphasizing respect for the timeline and leadership's decisions.

"First and foremost, just out of respect for the process, it's currently ongoing, you know, I would defer . . . everything to ownership, and [Vikings COO] Andrew Miller as that process is ongoing," O'Connell said.

O'Connell also expressed enthusiasm about forming a potential partnership with the new GM, stating:

"I'm excited for potentially forming that relationship, going through the process, and as much of a part as ownership and Andrew want me to be a part of it, I will. . . . [V]ery much looking forward to a great outcome, which I know we're gonna get."

When asked about potential interactions with GM candidates, O'Connell reiterated his commitment to the organization's structured approach:

"In whatever capacity that ownership and Andrew have for me as their plan, that's what I'm gonna do," O'Connell said. "You know, obviously, it's an important time. It's important. It's clearly an important hire, but I have so much respect in the process-driven, the process-oriented aspect of not only our ownership, but Andrew Miller, that I know we're gonna get to that good outcome."

The alignment between the new GM and coaching staff is critical for the Vikings' future. O'Connell stressed the need for a unified front, stating that the GM must acquire players the coaching staff desires while retaining those the staff values. He emphasized:

"There needs to be little or no daylight between the G.M. and coach."

The organizational structure remains a key question: Will the new GM report to O'Connell, will O'Connell report to the GM, or will they operate as equals under ownership? Regardless, O'Connell's track record speaks for itself. In four seasons as head coach, he has compiled a 43-25 record, including 13 wins in 2022 and 14 wins in 2024. His success came despite working with a GM who was fired by ownership after the 2025 season.

The best NFL organizations thrive when their GM and coach are fully aligned. Adversity tests these relationships, and Minnesota's recent struggles—despite showing potential under O'Connell—underscore the importance of collaboration. O'Connell's experience and leadership could provide stability as the team navigates this transition.
