Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has filed a lawsuit against Netflix, accusing the company of engaging in deceptive practices and violating state privacy laws.
The lawsuit, filed on Monday, claims Netflix operates a surveillance program that illegally collects and profits from Texans' personal data without their consent. The allegations extend to the company designing its platform to be addictive and using features to manipulate users.
In a press release, Paxton stated:
"Netflix has built a surveillance program designed to illegally collect and profit from Texans' personal data without their consent, and my office will do everything in our power to stop it. Netflix is not the ad-free and kid-friendly platform it claims to be. Instead, it has misled …"
The lawsuit follows growing concerns over data privacy and the impact of streaming platforms on users, particularly children. Netflix has not yet publicly responded to the allegations.
