NFLドラフトを通過した選手が見つからなかった中、ルーク・アルトマイヤーが新たな一歩を踏み出す。複数のメディアが報じたところによると、デトロイト・ライオンズと契約に合意したという。
アルトマイヤーは、ミシシッピ大学で2シーズンを過ごした後、イリノイ大学に転校。同大学では3年間スターターを務め、通算パス成功率で同校記録を達成した。2025年シーズンは、67.4%のパス成功率を記録し、3,007ヤード、22タッチダウン、5インターセプトという成績を残した。
ライオンズの先発QBは引き続きジャレッド・ゴフが務めるが、フリーエージェントで加入したテディ・ブリッジウォーターが控えとしてチームに残留する。
