The Denza Z Convertible has debuted in China, marking the latest addition to the brand’s lineup of high-performance electric vehicles (EVs). The model will be available in coupe and track-focused variants, expanding the Z series’ appeal to a broader audience.

With a combined output of over 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS), the Denza Z is positioned as a formidable rival to luxury sportscars like the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore. The production version combines sleek styling with an advanced electric powertrain and cutting-edge electronics.

Design and Styling: A Blend of Elegance and Performance

The Z Convertible features a more refined design compared to its closed-roof sibling, despite sharing most body panels. Key highlights include:

  • An exposed four-seater cabin for a sportier aesthetic
  • A redesigned rear deck that enhances proportions
  • More sophisticated bumper designs, departing from the track-focused bodykit of the show car

The show car, displayed at the 2026 Beijing Auto Salon, showcased a bluish-green satin finish and a tri-color interior, drawing clear inspiration from Maserati’s design language. While the soft-top roof’s operation wasn’t demonstrated, spy shots confirm it is fabric-based.

Under the Hood: Power and Technology

The Denza Z is powered by three electric motors, delivering all-wheel-drive (AWD) capabilities. Its powertrain includes:

  • Combined output of 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS)
  • BYD’s DiSus-M electromagnetic suspension system for superior ride comfort and handling
  • “Eye of the God” driver assistance system for enhanced safety
  • A battery pack supporting flash charging for rapid recharging

The Z series was designed under the guidance of Wolfgang Egger, former Audi design chief and current head of design for BYD brands including Denza, Fang Cheng Bao, and YangWang.

Global Launch Strategy: Europe First, China Later

In a strategic move, the Denza Z will launch in Europe and other global markets before making its way to Chinese showrooms. Following its debut at the Beijing Auto Show, the model will make its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in the UK.

Pricing: A Competitive Edge in the Luxury EV Market

Local media in China estimate the Denza Z will be priced between ¥400,000 and ¥500,000 ($58,600–$73,200), positioning it as a more affordable alternative to Western sportscars and supercars. This pricing strategy underscores Denza’s ambition to compete in the global luxury EV segment.
