Rockstar Games is advancing development on Grand Theft Auto 6, with a planned release later this year. However, the highly anticipated sequel will not launch on PC at the same time as its console counterparts.
PS5 and Xbox Series X|S will exclusively host GTA 6 at launch, leaving PC gamers waiting. This mirrors Rockstar’s long-standing release strategy for major titles, and it’s a deliberate choice, according to Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick.

"Rockstar always starts on console because I think with regard to a release like that you're judged by serving the core. Like really serving the core consumer. If your core consumer isn't there, if they're not served first and best, you kind of don't hit your other consumers."
Zelnick’s remarks suggest that PC gamers are not considered the "core" audience for Rockstar’s flagship releases. However, history indicates that a PC version of GTA 6 will eventually arrive, likely with upgraded visuals and additional enhancements to drive further sales.
This approach mirrors the lifecycle of GTA 5, which received multiple re-releases across console generations and later launched on PC as the Definitive Edition. The strategy prioritizes maximizing revenue through staggered launches across platforms.
Unprecedented Expectations for GTA 6
The hype surrounding GTA 6 is unparalleled. Zelnick has previously described the game as "the most spectacular piece of entertainment on Earth, in history." A QA analyst at Rockstar’s studio in India has also revealed that the game’s development is under intense pressure to meet expectations, with crunch conditions in place to ensure its completion.
"We never claim success before it occurs. We have the most amazing creative teams. We not only encourage them to pursue their passions, we insist that they do it. We try to give them unlimited financial, creative human resources and then they aim to deliver perfection."
With the launch date set for November 19—just six months away—Rockstar is preparing for a massive marketing push this summer. Zelnick emphasized the studio’s goal: "Our goal is to deliver to consumers something that’s never been experienced before," when it comes to GTA 6. He added, "Being on the sidelines but pretty close to the front of the sidelines is very, very exciting and terrifying, because the expectations are so high."
