Jaguar is set to reveal the production name for its highly anticipated Type 00 EV on May 12, marking a pivotal moment in the brand’s controversial EV-only reboot.
The four-door electric grand tourer (GT) is expected to deliver over 1,000 hp (746 kW) and a WLTP range of approximately 700 km (435 miles) from a 120 kWh battery pack. This would make it the most powerful Jaguar road car ever produced, with a tri-motor setup generating roughly 959 lb-ft (1,300 Nm) of torque in its launch edition.
Jaguar also claims the EV can recover up to 321 km (200 miles) of range in just 15 minutes of fast charging, positioning it as a leader in luxury electric performance.
From Concept to Production: The Journey of the Type 00 EV
Internally codenamed X900, the Type 00 EV has been spotted in prototype form across multiple continents, teasing its long, low-slung grand tourer design. While the concept previewed a two-door layout, the production version will adopt a more practical four-door configuration, retaining the concept’s exaggerated proportions, slab-sided surfacing, and sleek roofline.
According to a report from Autocar India, the production name will be unveiled on May 12. The production-spec version is expected to debut in September, with customer deliveries anticipated to begin in 2027.
Under the Hood: Jaguar’s Dedicated EV Platform
The Type 00 EV rides on Jaguar’s new Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA), a dedicated EV platform designed to maximize performance and efficiency. The tri-motor setup—one front motor and two rear motors—delivers the claimed output of over 1,000 hp, ensuring exhilarating acceleration and dynamic handling.
Jaguar’s shift to an all-electric lineup has been met with both excitement and skepticism. As the brand’s first production model born from its EV-only reboot, the Type 00 EV represents a critical test of its ability to redefine itself in the luxury electric vehicle market.
Design and Practicality: A Modern Grand Tourer
Spy shots suggest the production model closely follows the concept’s design language, balancing bold styling with functional improvements. The four-door layout enhances practicality, catering to families and long-distance travelers while maintaining the sleek, aerodynamic profile of a grand tourer.
Jaguar’s success with the Type 00 EV hinges not only on its performance and range but also on its name. After months of speculation and debate, the production name is poised to set the tone for the brand’s electric future.
