Kid Rock and Pete Hegseth Take Apache Helicopter Flight

Musician Kid Rock, whose real name is Robert James Ritchie, reportedly took an AH-64 Apache helicopter ride with Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Monday morning. According to Ryan Grim of Drop Site, Ritchie flew to Fort Belvoir in northern Virginia on his private jet for the flight.

Unusual Flight Details

Typically, Apache helicopters operate with two pilots, but Ritchie and Hegseth each rode in separate helicopters with one pilot each. The helicopters were not stationed at Fort Belvoir, raising questions about their origin. A base spokesperson directed inquiries to Hegseth’s office, Grim reported.

Recent Controversies Involving Apache Helicopters

Last month, two Apache helicopters flew over a "No Kings" protest in Nashville, Tennessee, and performed maneuvers near Ritchie’s mansion in the suburbs. This prompted an investigation and the suspension of the air crews. Days later, Hegseth lifted the suspension and announced no punishment for the soldiers, posting on X:

"Carry on, patriots. 🇺🇸"

Kid Rock’s Recent Public Appearances with Officials

Ritchie has been frequently seen with Cabinet officials recently. In February, he participated in a controversial ice bath and workout video with Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to promote public health policy.

Purpose and Cost of the Helicopter Ride

The purpose of the helicopter flights does not appear to be related to national security. As of 2022, operating an Apache helicopter costs $5,171 per hour.
