Los Angeles City Councilmember Nithya Raman criticized ‘The Daily Show’ on Monday for joking about former reality TV star Spencer Pratt’s bid for Los Angeles mayor, calling his campaign a genuine threat to the city.
Raman, who announced her own mayoral candidacy just days after Pratt, responded to the Comedy Central program’s segment mocking the reality star. She warned that his political positions pose real danger to Los Angeles residents.
“This is funny. But Spencer Pratt’s run for mayor is no joke,” Raman wrote on X. “He’s a MAGA Republican who has vowed to work with ICE and end LA’s sanctuary city ordinance.
He is a threat to Los Angeles and the immigrants who built their lives here.”

On ‘The Daily Show’, host Ronny Chieng set up a joke about the need for “someone serious” to address Los Angeles’ homelessness crisis and avoid greenlighting Pratt’s pilot scripts. He then introduced Pratt as the candidate.
“Finally a candidate who makes white women over 40 go, ‘Oh yeah, that guy … ew,’” Chieng joked.
The show also aired a clip of Pratt berating his sister on the early 2000s reality series ‘The Hills’.
“What are you crying about Stephanie?” Pratt taunts his sister in the video. “That’s why you’re not in my life you crazy bitch.”
“It’s amazing how 20 years ago this was considered TV villain behavior,” Chieng said. “But now this guy sounds like he should be director of the FBI.”
‘The Daily Show’ also referenced Pratt’s sister, Stephanie Pratt, who called a vote for her brother a “vote for stupidity.” Stephanie Pratt, who publicly distanced herself from Spencer’s campaign one week after his announcement, previously tweeted in February that his mayoral run was an inflated publicity stunt. Her tweets, which have since been made private, also accused Spencer of assault, drug use, encouraging her to use drugs, and being involved in a cult.
