The Morgan Supersport 400 stands as the most powerful production car ever built by the iconic British manufacturer, surpassing the 400 bhp threshold for the first time in its 100-year history. While the name suggests 400 horsepower, the car actually produces 402 bhp (396.5 PS)—a distinction Morgan’s engineers have left uncorrected.

The heart of the Supersport 400 is the BMW B58 O1 inline-six turbocharged engine, the same powerplant found in the standard Supersport model. However, Morgan has extracted an additional 60 hp through software optimizations and the addition of a free-flowing Active Performance Exhaust System. These upgrades enable the car to accelerate from 0-62 mph in just 3.6 seconds and achieve a top speed of 180 mph.

Transmission duties are handled by an eight-speed automatic, a component shared with BMW’s own lineup. While this setup delivers strong performance, Morgan has addressed previous criticisms by introducing a new aluminum shifter for the Supersport 400. The company describes it as providing a “precise and tactile interface, combining ergonomic clarity with a contemporary material finish.”

Inside the cabin, Morgan has further refined the driving experience. The instrument cluster features new digital displays with analog-style artwork from Caerbont, the original manufacturer of Smiths dials in the U.K. These instruments maintain a classic aesthetic while offering modern functionality. The Supersport 400 also boasts unique stitching and a blend of Alcantara and leather trim, elevating its interior quality.

Externally, the Supersport 400 introduces subtle yet functional changes. The car’s signature flowing front wings now feature cutouts to improve airflow and cooling, while the lower body is finished in a glossy paint. The model rides on 19-inch Sportlite forged alloy wheels, available in silver or bronze finishes.

The chassis has also received significant upgrades, including revised suspension geometry and the option of a limited-slip differential. The Dynamic Handling Pack comes standard, featuring Nitron dampers with unique valve and spring rates, as well as 24 clicks of adjustment. Jonathan Wells, Morgan’s Chief Design Officer, emphasizes the model’s role in the brand’s evolution:

“From the outset, the new chassis and Supersport programme were conceived with far greater potential. Supersport 400 is the next step in realizing that. It marks a significant milestone in the evolution of our performance offering, strengthening a pillar that now sits confidently alongside fine coachbuilding and bold, timeless design.”

The Supersport 400 is positioned as the flagship of Morgan’s production range, not a limited-edition model. However, the company has hinted at future bespoke and limited-run collections to expand its portfolio. Pricing for the Supersport 400 starts at £112,965 (approximately $152,000) in the U.K., with orders now open. Notably, U.S. buyers currently have access only to the Plus Four and Super Three models, making the Supersport 400 a highly sought-after prospect for enthusiasts in the region.
