The New York Post’s release of photos showing Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel and former ESPN reporter Dianna Russini has shed new light on Vrabel’s unplanned absence during the third day of the NFL Draft.

Vrabel announced early Thursday morning that he would be stepping away from the team, just hours after the Post contacted him regarding an extensive set of images taken on March 11, 2020.

The photos depict Vrabel and Russini sitting closely together at a New York City bar. According to an unnamed eyewitness cited by the Post, the two were “kissing and they were all over each other,” with the source adding, “They were [giving each other] pecks, a bunch of pecks constantly.” The eyewitness also noted that no one else was present in the bar and that the bartenders did not recognize them.

At the time the photos were taken, Vrabel was married, while Russini was not and was employed by ESPN.

The date of the photos, March 11, 2020, coincides with the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic, though the Post and eyewitness accounts do not suggest any direct relevance to the situation.

The Patriots had announced on Wednesday that either Vrabel or Eliot Wolf, the team’s vice president of player personnel, would be available to reporters on Thursday and Friday. Given the circumstances, it is widely expected that Wolf will handle media duties for the next two days.
