Valve’s newly released Steam Controller sold out within hours of its official launch on Monday, leaving many potential buyers unable to complete their purchases. In response to the overwhelming demand and subsequent scalping issues, Valve announced a new “reservations queue” that will open this Friday, October 11, at 1:00 PM ET.

This system is designed for customers who missed out on the initial purchase window. Valve acknowledged the frustration experienced by buyers during the initial sale, stating,

“While we were happy to see such a high level of interest, the experience for a lot of you trying to buy it was incredibly frustrating.”

Scalpers quickly capitalized on the shortage, listing the Steam Controller on eBay and other platforms at prices significantly above Valve’s original $99 retail price. The company did not specify the exact number of units sold or the duration of the initial sale, but confirmed that demand far exceeded supply.

Valve has not provided further details about the reservations queue, including how long it will remain open or how units will be allocated. The company stated it is making changes to improve the purchasing experience and address scalping concerns moving forward.
