ABC has filed a Petition for Declaratory Ruling with the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) following the commission’s announcement that it will investigate ABC’s daytime talk show 'The View' for allegedly violating the organization’s ‘equal time’ rule.

The ‘equal time’ rule is a federal regulation requiring radio and television stations to provide equal airtime to all qualified political candidates.

In its filing, ABC stated,

‘The Commission’s actions threaten to upend decades of settled law and practice and chill critical protected speech, both with respect to ‘The View’ and more broadly.’

The petition comes after the FCC announced its decision to probe the show for potential violations of the rule.
