Fang Cheng Bao, the electric vehicle brand under BYD, has transformed its image at the 2026 Beijing Auto Show with the unveiling of a striking electric supercar and three new low-slung EVs under the Formula series. The lineup includes the Formula X supercar, Formula S sedan, Formula SL sedan, and Formula S GT hatchback.
All four high-performance electric vehicles are scheduled to enter production by late 2026, with the Formula X supercar set to launch in 2027.
The Formula X Supercar: A 1,000 HP Electric Showstopper
The Formula X is the centerpiece of Fang Cheng Bao’s new lineup. Evolving from the Super 9 speedster concept introduced in 2024, the Formula X features a futuristic design with balanced proportions, aggressive LED headlights, upward-opening doors, and 19 functional air vents. Its styling language draws inspiration from Denza, a BYD brand with European design aspirations.
The supercar’s bodywork is crafted from carbon fiber, including a custom “monocage” chassis. The exposed two-seater cabin is wrapped in a futuristic “battle cockpit” around the driver, eliminating the structural bridge seen in the earlier concept.
The Formula X is powered by three electric motors producing a combined 1,000 hp (746 kW / 1,014 PS) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque. While these figures were groundbreaking a decade ago, they now align with the rapidly advancing capabilities of electric vehicles, such as BYD’s YangWang U9 Xtreme, which generates a staggering 2,977 hp (2,220 kW / 3,018 PS).
Despite its performance credentials, the Formula X is not just a concept car. BYD has confirmed plans for a market launch in 2027, though it remains to be seen whether the supercar will be offered outside China.
The Formula Series: Sedans and Hatchback Expand the Lineup
In addition to the supercar, Fang Cheng Bao has introduced three new models under the Formula series, targeting the executive and performance segments:
- Formula S: A sedan positioned as a rival to the Porsche Taycan.
- Formula S GT: A hatchback/wagon with a shooting brake stance.
- Formula SL: A premium variant of the Formula S sedan, featuring redesigned bumpers, a more sculpted profile, and gold-finished 21-inch alloy wheels.
The Formula S and Formula S GT share the same electric platform, with the SL offering enhanced luxury and styling. All three models are built on an 800V platform and feature a tri-motor AWD powertrain capable of generating up to 1,000 horsepower. They also utilize BYD’s DiSus-M magnetic ride control for superior handling.
In terms of dimensions, the sedans and hatchback share an identical wheelbase of 3,100 mm (122.1 inches) and measure over 5,000 mm (196.8 inches) in length.
Expanding Beyond Rugged SUVs
Fang Cheng Bao initially built its reputation on boxy and rugged SUVs, including the Leopard series. The introduction of the Formula series marks a significant shift toward high-performance electric vehicles, expanding the brand’s lineup and appealing to a broader range of customers.
The new models will join the existing SUV lineup, offering a blend of luxury, performance, and cutting-edge technology.
