The Ferrari Purosangue has always stood out as the most driver-focused crossover on the market, thanks to its naturally-aspirated V12 engine and sports car chassis. Now, Ferrari is pushing the envelope further with the new Handling Speciale package, an optional upgrade designed to enhance the Maranello-based crossover’s sporting credentials without compromising its practicality.

The package introduces a series of mechanical and visual refinements, all aimed at delivering sharper responses, stronger sensations, and a more engaging driving experience. Ferrari’s goal is to dial up the Purosangue’s performance edge while preserving its daily usability—no small feat for a vehicle weighing over 2,000 kg (4,410 lbs).

Mechanical Upgrades: Chassis and Transmission

The most significant mechanical update is a revised calibration for the active suspension system. Ferrari claims this reduces body movement by 10%, resulting in a tighter, more controlled feel. The change translates to quicker reactions through corners and a flatter cornering attitude, addressing one of the crossover’s few criticisms.

Additionally, Ferrari has adjusted the transmission software to make gear changes faster and more assertive. This is particularly noticeable in Race and ESC Off modes, where shifts become more dramatic above 5,500 rpm. While the Purosangue’s 6.5-liter V12 remains unchanged at 715 hp (725 PS), independent dyno tests suggest it produces over 800 hp (811 PS). The revised gearbox mapping ensures these extra horses are put to good use with snappier, more engaging shifts.

Engine and Sound Enhancements

Ferrari has also made subtle adjustments to the V12’s sound profile. The engine is reported to be more vocal at startup and when accelerating hard, though the manufacturer has not disclosed the specific modifications. Rumors suggest a new symposer pipe may be responsible for bringing more of the V12’s raw exhaust note into the cabin, satisfying enthusiasts who crave a more immersive auditory experience.

Subtle Styling Tweaks

The Handling Speciale package includes understated visual upgrades to signal the crossover’s enhanced capabilities. Buyers will receive:

  • Diamond-cut wheels for a more premium look.
  • Carbon-fiber side shields to reduce weight and add a sporty aesthetic.
  • Matte black exhaust tips for a more aggressive stance.
  • A black rear Prancing Horse badge to denote exclusivity.
  • Satin exterior script for a refined touch.
  • An interior plaque to remind passengers of the upgraded performance.

These changes are deliberately restrained, ensuring the Purosangue retains its elegant, understated design language while subtly hinting at its enhanced capabilities.

Performance Figures Remain Unchanged

Despite the upgrades, Ferrari has not altered the Purosangue’s performance figures. The crossover still accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.3 seconds and achieves a top speed of over 193 mph (310 km/h). However, as with the Porsche 911 GT3, the Purosangue’s engine requires driver engagement to deliver its best performance, making it a true driver’s car.

The Handling Speciale package is now available as an optional upgrade for the Ferrari Purosangue, offering enthusiasts a way to elevate their driving experience without sacrificing the crossover’s practicality or elegance.
