Kimera Automobili is developing the K39, a new restomod based on Lancia heritage, featuring a radical design and a powerful powertrain. The model will be available in two versions: a racing variant for the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and a road-legal edition.

The racing version, set to debut next year, has been spotted with an aggressive aerodynamic package, including a towering rear wing and a prominent front splitter. The road-going model, previewed in teasers, shares the same aggressive styling cues, such as a large front splitter, extensive hood vents, and louvers above the front wheels.

Kimera Automobili has built its reputation on iconic restomods like the EVO37 and EVO38. The K39 marks the brand’s latest creation, first teased in mid-2024 through ultra-realistic renderings. Initially planned for Pikes Peak in 2025, the racing version was delayed but is now confirmed for next year’s event. The road-legal K39 will also be unveiled at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este at Lake Como, Italy, next week.

Design and Aerodynamics

The K39’s design is a blend of retro Lancia styling and modern performance enhancements. The road-legal version features a prominent front splitter, large hood air vents, and louvers above the front wheels, while the rear is dominated by a large wing. The racing variant takes aerodynamics further with an even larger splitter, a roof scoop for engine cooling, and an exaggerated rear wing—consistent with Kimera’s signature aggressive styling.

Powertrain: Goodbye to the 4-Cylinder

Unlike previous Kimera models such as the EVO37, which used a 2.1-liter twin-charged four-cylinder engine, the K39 will not feature a four-cylinder powertrain. Instead, teasers suggest it will be powered by either a V6 or a V8 engine, delivering significantly more power and performance. This change aligns with the K39’s goal of conquering Pikes Peak, where raw power and torque are essential.

Kimera has not yet confirmed the exact specifications of the V6 or V8 engines, but the shift to a larger displacement engine underscores the brand’s commitment to high-performance restomods.
