テキサス州ワタウガ在住の911通報員、マイク・フォーベス氏（当時40代）が、緊急通話中に不適切な冗談を述べたとして、正式に戒告処分を受けた。
事件の発端は、母親からの通報だった。母親は「娘同士が喧嘩をしていて、そのうちの一人がドアに穴を開けてしまった」と911に通報した。これに対し、フォーベス氏は「了解です。撃ちに行きましょうか？」と発言したのだ。
後にフォーベス氏は自身の発言が不適切であったことを認め、謝罪した。同氏は「冗談のつもりだった」と弁明したが、上司は厳正な処分を下す判断に至った。
この一件は、緊急時における通報員の対応が改めて注目を集める結果となった。
