The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) was forced to correct a false statement made by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche regarding the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC).

Speaking to Fox News on April 21, Blanche claimed the government had “no information” to suggest the SPLC had shared intelligence gathered from its undercover informant program within hate groups, such as the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), with law enforcement.

The SPLC responded by filing a motion to retract Blanche’s false statement and prevent further misrepresentations. In a court filing on Tuesday, the DOJ acknowledged Blanche’s later clarification on Fox News Sunday with Shannon Bream.

“It is true that over the years they have selectively shared with law enforcement. That’s well documented and there’s no dispute there. They aren’t charged with any of that conduct,”
Blanche stated.

The DOJ filing added:

“To the extent that any clarification was needed, Acting Attorney Todd Blanche’s remarks on a major Sunday television program certainly suffice.”

This incident is the latest in a series of missteps by Blanche, who has also faced criticism for undermining the DOJ’s case against former FBI Director James Comey during a Sunday television appearance. The errors reflect a broader pattern of prosecutorial missteps within the department, which have raised concerns about the integrity of civil and criminal cases.
