FDA Proposes Removing 'Gender' References in Regulations

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has proposed a rule to remove references to “gender” from its regulations, citing a 2025 executive order from President Trump that emphasizes “biological sex” in federal policies. The FDA stated the proposal “does not impact industry practice” and “does not anticipate any measurable change in industry.” However, legal experts warn of potential broader impacts on drug testing and clinical trial representation, particularly for underrepresented gender minority groups.

Louisiana Challenges Abortion Pill Access via Telemedicine

Louisiana has urged the U.S. Supreme Court to block the prescription of abortion pills through telemedicine and their distribution by mail. The state, led by Republican Attorney General Liz Murrill, is challenging a 2023 federal rule issued during President Joe Biden’s administration that expanded access to the medication mifepristone. Murrill’s office argues that the rule has allowed medication abortions to increase despite Louisiana’s near-total ban on abortion. The state filed a motion asking the Supreme Court to deny emergency requests by two manufacturers to lift a lower court’s decision restricting access to the pill nationwide while the legal challenge proceeds.
