The Volkswagen ID. Polo EV has officially entered pre-sales this week, marking the German automaker’s return to the compact electric vehicle segment with a fully electric seventh-generation hatchback.
Pricing and Availability
Pre-sales for the ID. Polo EV are now live in Germany, with the entry-level Trend trim starting at €24,995. However, the only currently available order option is the mid-spec Life trim, which begins at €33,795. Additional variants are scheduled to arrive in summer 2025.
Range, Power, and Battery Options
The ID. Polo EV offers three power outputs at launch:
- 114 hp (116 PS / 85 kW) with a 37 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, delivering up to 204 miles (329 km) of range and DC fast charging up to 90 kW. A 10-to-80 percent charge takes approximately 27 minutes.
- 133 hp (135 PS / 99 kW) with the same 37 kWh battery, matching the range and charging capabilities of the 114 hp variant.
- 208 hp (211 PS / 155 kW) paired with a 52 kWh nickel-manganese-cobalt battery, extending range to a provisional 283 miles (455 km) and supporting DC charging up to 105 kW. This configuration reduces the 10-to-80 percent charge time to roughly 24 minutes.
A high-performance GTI variant with 223 hp (226 PS / 166 kW) is confirmed for a 2027 release.
Platform and Dimensions
The ID. Polo rides on Volkswagen’s front-wheel drive MEB+ EV platform, delivering notable space efficiency. Unlike the larger ID.3 Neo, the motor is not positioned under the cargo floor, resulting in a 25 percent increase in luggage volume compared to the combustion-powered Polo—rising from 351 liters to 441 liters. With rear seats folded, cargo capacity expands to 1,243 liters.
The interior gains an additional 19 mm of passenger space, particularly benefiting rear-seat occupants. The ID. Polo measures 4,053 mm (159.6 in) in length, 1,816 mm (71.5 in) in width, and 1,530 mm (59.8 in) in height, with a 2,600 mm (102.4 in) wheelbase. It is 131 mm (5.2 in) shorter and 42 mm (1.7 in) narrower than the Renault 5 E-Tech but closely matches the dimensions of the Cupra Raval and Skoda Epiq, which share the same platform and running gear.
Exterior and Interior Design
The ID. Polo’s exterior closely mirrors the 2023 ID.2all concept, featuring bold five-spoke wheels and a striking blue paint finish. Rear door handles are concealed near the C-pillar to enhance aerodynamics, while a wide transverse light bar at the rear is topped with an illuminated red Volkswagen roundel, complementing the front’s white-lit logo.
The interior adopts a retro-digital theme, highlighted by a distinctive digital display and available pneumatic seat massagers. Volkswagen also emphasizes the Polo’s heritage, with over 20 million units sold since the nameplate debuted more than 50 years ago.
"The ID. Polo represents Volkswagen’s commitment to affordable, accessible electric mobility without compromising on space, performance, or style."
