米ルイジアナ州ニューオーリンズに拠点を置く第5巡回区控訴裁判所の3人全員一致の判決により、妊娠中絶薬ミフェプリストンの配布方法が制限された。
裁判所は、同薬の処方箋を郵送で配布することを禁止し、医療機関での対面処方に限定するよう命じた。これにより、米食品医薬品局（FDA）が定めた規制が事実上覆される形となった。
判決は、同薬の安全性と有効性に関する議論が続く中で下された。ミフェプリストンは、米国で広く使用されている妊娠中絶薬の一つであり、特に医療機関へのアクセスが困難な地域において重要な役割を果たしている。
今後、同薬の配布方法に関するさらなる法廷闘争が予想される。
