The 2026 Volkswagen ID. Buzz receives a major update in Europe and the UK, while North America remains excluded for now. The refreshed electric microbus introduces a dual-motor 335 hp (250 kW) powertrain, all-wheel drive, and a host of new features. However, these improvements will not reach U.S. buyers until the 2027 model year.
New Powertrain and Performance Upgrades
The standout addition is the ID. Buzz Pro 4Motion, which replaces the rear-wheel-drive setup with a dual-motor system delivering 335 hp (250 kW)—previously exclusive to the GTX variant. Battery options vary by wheelbase: the short-wheelbase model gets a 79 kWh pack, while the long-wheelbase version upgrades to an 86 kWh unit.
All-wheel drive isn’t just about improved traction. Towing capacity receives a substantial boost, increasing by 600 kg (1,323 lbs) over rear-wheel-drive models. The standard version now supports a maximum tow of 1,800 kg (3,968 lbs), though the longer, heavier variant sees a slight reduction to 1,600 kg (3,527 lbs).
Cabin Improvements and New Tech Features
Volkswagen addresses long-standing ergonomic complaints in the ID. Buzz’s interior. The most notable change is the return of physical steering wheel buttons, replacing the controversial touch-sensitive controls. However, the divisive touch sliders below the main screen remain.
The updated cabin introduces the latest Innovision infotainment system, featuring cleaner menus and a new App Store for audio, video streaming, parking, charging, and gaming. This system mirrors the one in the ID.3 Neo and will later appear in the facelifted Caddy and Transporter T7.
Additional upgrades include:
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality: The ID. Buzz can now power external devices like e-bikes via a dedicated adapter, turning it into a mobile power source.
- One-pedal driving: Regenerative braking brings the van to a complete stop when the driver lifts their foot off the accelerator.
- Enhanced safety: The optional Connected Travel Assist adds traffic light recognition for smoother, more intuitive driving.
Availability and Future Plans
The 2026 VW ID. Buzz will arrive at European and UK dealerships this summer. While these updates are currently limited to those markets, Volkswagen has not ruled out applying them to the U.S.-spec model for the 2027 model year.
