Bank CEO Sam Sidhu Uses AI Clone for Earnings Call

Customers Bank CEO Sam Sidhu made headlines by revealing that an AI clone of himself delivered his prepared remarks during a conference call discussing the company’s latest earnings reports, according to CNBC.

The stunt, which unfolded after nearly an hour of the AI speaking on his behalf, was intended to draw attention to Customers Bank’s new multiyear partnership with OpenAI.

"The prepared remarks you heard on my behalf today were delivered by my AI clone, not read by me."

Sidhu described the AI clone’s performance as a potential first for a public company earnings call, though it remains unclear whether attendees were actually fooled.

OpenAI Partnership and AI Integration Plans

Customers Bank announced its partnership with OpenAI on Monday, aiming to deploy the AI company’s models across the bank’s operations. The collaboration will also focus on creating custom AI capabilities tailored to banking needs.

Sidhu outlined ambitious expectations for the AI integration, projecting significant efficiency improvements:

  • Reducing the company’s efficiency ratio—calculated by dividing non-interest operating costs by revenue—from 49% to the low 40s.
  • Cutting commercial loan closing times from over 30 days to just seven days.
  • Speeding up commercial client account openings from over a day to just twenty minutes.

"When you have an autonomous agent, you’re essentially creating a digital worker… and they can work around the clock," Sidhu told CNBC.

AI Ambitions and Industry Skepticism

Sidhu’s predictions come amid growing AI adoption in corporate settings, despite persistent concerns about reliability. Major corporations like Amazon and Meta have faced challenges with AI-driven systems, highlighting the technology’s potential pitfalls.

The banking sector is no exception, with institutions increasingly exploring AI to streamline operations. However, the use of AI clones for high-stakes communications remains a divisive move.

Other CEOs Embrace AI Clones

Sidhu is not alone in his enthusiasm for AI replicas. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg is reportedly developing a CEO AI agent to assist with his duties, alongside creating a "photorealistic" AI clone for staff to consult at any time.

As AI fever continues to grip corporate leadership, the long-term impact of such innovations remains a topic of debate.
