Toyota’s New Software Upgrades for GR Yaris and GR Corolla

Toyota has introduced a suite of performance-focused software upgrades for the GR Yaris and GR Corolla in Japan, including a $1,700 Competition package that allows fine-tuned power distribution adjustments. The upgrades come with a critical warranty caveat for owners.

Available Software Packages and Pricing

  • Street Package: 99,000 yen ($635) – Adds a shift timing indicator to the digital gauge cluster, adjustable accelerator response, and torque distribution management.
  • Circuit Package: 173,800 yen ($1,115) – Introduces flat-foot shifting for six-speed manual models and a rally-inspired anti-lag system with five settings. Automatic models gain improved transmission responsiveness.
  • Competition Package: 265,100 yen ($1,700) – Enables 1% power distribution adjustments (70:30 to 30:70 front-to-rear), 1 Nm torque coupling increments (0–299 Nm), and eight steering weight options.

Warranty Risks for Competition Package Users

Toyota explicitly states that the Competition package is "intended for competition use only." Any damage to the four-wheel-drive system resulting from these adjustments will not be covered under warranty.

Additional Performance Enhancements

For pre-facelift GR Corolla models, Toyota has increased torque from 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) to 400 Nm (295 lb-ft), while power remains unchanged at 224 kW (300 hp). The four-wheel-drive modes have also been refined for improved performance.

Availability Outside Japan Unconfirmed

Toyota has not confirmed whether these software or hardware updates will be available in markets outside Japan.
