McLaren is set to make a bold return to top-tier sports car racing with the introduction of its all-new MCL-HY Hypercar. Designed for both competition and exclusive track experiences, the car will debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2027, including the legendary Le Mans 24 Hours—a race McLaren last won outright in 1995 with the F1 GTR.

The MCL-HY also represents McLaren’s ambition to achieve motorsport’s ultimate prize: the Triple Crown, comprising the Monaco Grand Prix, the Indianapolis 500, and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. While McLaren has claimed victories in each of these races separately, the company has never won all three in a single season.

“McLaren Racing now has three race cars ready to contest the biggest motorsport series in the world; Formula 1, INDYCAR and WEC. This means McLaren, its partners and fans can challenge for the Triple Crown of Monaco GP, INDY500 and the 24 Hours of Le Mans together—a unique cross-series story that sets us apart.”

Technical Specifications of the MCL-HY Hypercar

The MCL-HY is engineered to comply with ACO/IMSA LMDh regulations, featuring a 2.9-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine paired with a hybrid Motor Generator Unit (MGU). The powertrain delivers a combined output of 697 horsepower, transmitted exclusively to the rear wheels. At its core, the Hypercar utilizes a carbon fiber monocoque chassis, ensuring a lightweight construction that meets the minimum weight requirement of 1,030 kg (2,271 lbs) as mandated by regulations.

MCL-HY GTR: The Track-Day Special for VIP Clients

Beyond its racing ambitions, McLaren will produce a limited run of MCL-HY GTR editions for its most valued customers. Unlike the race car, the GTR variant is not bound by strict competition rules, allowing for enhanced performance and reduced weight. The GTR boasts an output of 720 horsepower, achieved by increasing turbo boost.

Each GTR package includes a two-year program featuring:

  • Six exclusive track days
  • Professional driver coaching
  • Dedicated pit crew and engineering support
  • Behind-the-scenes access to the WEC team

“The MCL-HY GTR will offer an FIA Hypercar experience, unprecedented in its accessibility, to track driving enthusiasts. Those who come with us on this journey will see and feel the absolute best of McLaren, and how our racing heritage is shaping our future more than ever.”
