The Cincinnati Bengals made their first selection of the 2026 NFL Draft with the 41st overall pick, drafting Texas A&M edge rusher Cashius Howell in the second round.

This pick comes after the Bengals traded their first-round selection—the 10th overall pick—to the New York Giants in exchange for defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence.

The selection of Howell continues a trend of drafting Aggie pass rushers, following the Bengals’ first-round choice of Shemar Stewart in 2025.

Howell’s college career at Texas A&M was marked by consistent production. He recorded 27 sacks over five seasons, with 25 of those coming in his final three years. His standout 2025 season included 11.5 sacks and earned him SEC Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Despite his on-field success, concerns linger about Howell’s 30 1/4-inch arm length, the shortest among edge rushers since at least 1999. Scouts question whether his arm length will hinder his ability to create separation in the NFL. Howell, however, has dismissed these concerns, stating his performance will speak for itself.

The Bengals enter the draft with a pressing need to improve their defensive line. Last season, Cincinnati ranked among the NFL’s worst defenses, finishing last in pass rush win rate.
