BMW’s upcoming iX4 electric coupe SUV has been spotted testing, offering a sneak peek at the brand’s next-generation electric lineup. The vehicle shares its platform and powertrains with the recently unveiled iX3, marking another milestone in BMW’s Neue Klasse offensive.
iX4 50 xDrive: Power and Pricing
The iX4 50 xDrive is expected to deliver the same output as the iX3, with a total of 463 hp (345 kW / 469 PS). Pricing for the coupe is projected to be around $67,000, positioning it as a premium electric performance SUV.
BMW’s Neue Klasse offensive continues to gain momentum. Earlier this week, the brand impressed with the iX3 50 xDrive, which starts at $62,850 (including a $1,350 destination fee) and boasts an EPA-rated range of 434 miles (699 km). The iX4’s sleeker design and improved aerodynamics could potentially extend its range even further, though exact figures remain unconfirmed.
Design and Interior: A Sportier Take on the iX3
While the iX4 shares the same Neue Klasse platform and design language as the iX3, it distinguishes itself with a more dynamic silhouette. The roofline drops lower, flowing into a fastback rear end that enhances its sporty appearance. However, taller rear passengers may find the reduced headroom and smaller trunk less accommodating.
Spy shots of the prototype reveal colored brake calipers behind the wheels, suggesting the vehicle is equipped with either M Sport trim or an M Performance variant. The M Sport package for the iX3, which includes interior and exterior trim, costs an additional $2,500. Opting for the Professional version at $4,000 adds colored M brakes and the Iconic Glow illuminated grille.
The iX4’s interior mirrors the iX3’s tech-forward, minimalist cabin. Expect a 17.9-inch infotainment display, BMW’s pillar-to-pillar Panoramic iDrive setup, a futuristic four-spoke steering wheel, and an updated head-up display system. This design language will also appear in the upcoming electric i3 sedan, reinforcing the visual cohesion across BMW’s next generation of electric vehicles.
Powertrains and Performance: Matching the iX3 Lineup
Under the hood, the iX4 is expected to mirror the iX3’s powertrain options. Earlier leaks tied to a BMW US product plan indicated that America will receive both 40 and 50 variants of the iX3 in rear-wheel and all-wheel-drive configurations. While the iX4 is likely to offer matching versions, it appears BMW will restrict the coupe to all-wheel-drive models only.
The entry-level iX4 40 could feature the same setup as the European-spec iX3 40, which includes an 82.6 kWh battery and a 316 hp (235 kW / 320 PS) motor. The higher-end iX4 50 xDrive is projected to come with dual motors producing 463 hp (345 kW / 469 PS). Both variants will support 400 kW charging.
Range and Charging: Potential for Extended Mileage
With its more aerodynamic design, the iX4 could surpass the iX3’s 434-mile EPA range. However, pricing is expected to exceed $65,000, reflecting its premium positioning in BMW’s electric lineup.
