Formula E is set to revolutionize electric racing with its fourth-generation (GEN4) cars, debuting in the 2026/2027 season. Porsche has become the latest manufacturer to unveil its entrant, the 975 RSE, a machine that looks like it’s straight out of a sci-fi film but is designed for real-world competition.

Record-Breaking Performance Specs

The GEN4 Formula E car delivers unprecedented power and speed. In Attack Mode, the powertrain produces up to 805 hp, while regular racing is capped at 604 hp. Each car is equipped with a 51.25 kWh battery pack and features permanent all-wheel drive to maximize traction. The result? A blistering 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) time of just 1.8 seconds.

The car’s lightweight design, weighing in at 2,103 lbs (954 kg), further enhances its agility and performance on the track.

Advanced Technology and Efficiency

The GEN4 car introduces cutting-edge features to improve both speed and sustainability. Its regenerative braking system delivers up to 700 kW of recuperation power, capturing energy that would otherwise be lost. Additionally, the car supports ultra-fast charging at 600 kW, allowing for rapid pit stops and extended race strategies.

Aerodynamic Masterpiece: The 975 RSE Design

The 975 RSE’s design is a radical departure from previous Formula E cars, with a focus on maximizing downforce and efficiency. Key features include:

  • Front End: A completely redesigned nose cone with a multi-level splitter and intricate aero elements ahead of the front wheels.
  • Side Profile: Revised aerodynamics along the sides to improve airflow and stability.
  • Rear Wing: A flowing, high-downforce wing to enhance cornering grip.

Note: The livery shown is for testing purposes only. The final race-ready design will be unveiled at the start of the 2026/27 season.

Porsche’s Championship Ambitions

Porsche enters the GEN4 era with momentum. The brand currently leads both the drivers’ and teams’ championships in the 2025/2026 season. Porsche also secured the teams’ title in 2024-2025, while driver Pascal Wehrlein claimed the drivers’ championship in 2023-2024.

“The 975 RSE and its competitors are a massive step forward for the sport. I’m a big fan of how aggressively you can drive. Especially in qualifying, when everyone is pushing to the limit, it should be spectacular – particularly because of the strong acceleration out of the corners. I’m glad I was involved in the simulator work from the beginning. Pascal and I share the testing duties. That’s good, because it allows us to tailor the 975 RSE precisely to our needs.”

With the GEN4 car, Porsche is not just chasing championship glory—it’s aiming to redefine the future of Formula E racing.
